Botox® and similar wrinkle reducers in Houston, TX
Over time as you age, your face begins to show wrinkles, creases, and fine lines. Many people get “crow’s feet” around the outer edges of their eyes, and also forehead creases and frown lines between the eyebrows. You may also get wrinkles around the mouth. These are normal signs of aging that can progress over time, and often make you appear older and less rested than you may like. Fortunately, non-surgical, minimally-invasive treatment options such as Botox®, Jeuveau™ (also known as “Newtox”), and Dysport® have all been developed and approved by the FDA to reduce and even eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. With a series of small Botox (or similar wrinkle reducers) injections strategically placed in certain areas of the face, you can easily erase the evidence of aging.

What causes wrinkle formation?
Because our faces are constantly exposed to light and other environmental factors that advance the aging process, the face is the fastest to show the signs of aging. Even if you’ve regularly worn sunscreen and avoided smoking, most of us get to an age where we appear older or more tired than we would like.
Wrinkles form for a number of reasons, as our skin changes in many ways over the years. For instance, the skin naturally slows the production of collagen and elastin, important structural proteins that contribute to the elasticity and fullness of the skin. The skin also thins over time, and the constant pull of gravity eventually causes loosened skin to sag. Finally, the contraction of muscles during common daily facial expressions pulls on the skin and causes fine lines and wrinkles to form. This is commonly seen in areas around the eyes and the mouth, as they deepen over time and contribute to aging.
How do neurotoxins work?
The movements that are made by your face during facial expressions all require the coordinated contraction of many different facial muscles. These contractions are signaled by the nervous system, which communicates via nerve signals with each of the facial muscles to move in a synchronized way. These signals can cause you to squint, frown, or smile among many other facial expressions.
Botox, Jeuveau, and Dysport are all different types of injectable neurotoxins that interrupt the signal between the nerve cell and its target muscle. When placed precisely in specific areas of the face, they prevent muscular contraction and thus, movement of the area. This causes the skin to appear smooth and youthful by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. These types of injections, with the right physician, should be customized to your desires, whether it be for natural and soft movement, complete smoothness or somewhere in between; or even coupled with a little lift in your brows – Dr. Courtney can help you achieve a more rejuvenated you.
Additionally, the use of Botox, Jeuveau, or Dysport can even prevent the deepening and formation of new wrinkles. Botox typically lasts for about 3 to 4 months, with the strongest effects first taking place and then gradually fading.
When having your Botox treatments, you may decide to combine dermal fillers with your procedure. While Botox will stop the muscle contractions and formation of wrinkles, dermal fillers can “fill in” the creases that have already formed. For deeper wrinkles that occur across the forehead and between the eyebrows, the combination of dermal fillers and Botox can erase years from your face.
What should I expect during my Botox treatment?
You will want to seek out a highly-skilled and extensively-trained plastic surgeon whom you feel comfortable with to perform your Botox procedure. Though it is a simple injectable procedure, Dr. Courtney has a vast understanding of the facial anatomy, including muscular and nervous, which is essential in evaluating the best and most effective placement for your injectable treatments – as this differs by your individual facial composition and your concerns.
Your procedure will begin in our state-of-the-art facility where you will be immediately greeted and made to feel comfortable by our award-winning staff. After carefully studying the natural architecture of your face, Dr. Courtney will measure and make pencil markings for precise placement of the injections, giving you optimal and natural-looking outcomes.
During your treatment, you will have several small injections in different areas of your face. Dr. Courtney offers numbing cream and/or ice, if desired, to ensure that the procedure is most comfortable for you. Though some patients describe a slight burning sensation for just a moment or two with each injection, most patients are pleasantly surprised at the ease of the procedure and indicate that the sensation is highly tolerable. The entire procedure takes just a few minutes, quick enough to be completed even on your lunch break.
You can expect to return to your regular daily activities immediately following your Botox injections. There is typically no downtown, although you may experience slight redness, swelling, and/or bruising immediately after the injections, though these generally disappear shortly after. You may begin to notice some results in the first few hours. However, it typically takes 7-10 days for Botox to have its full effect. Occasionally, a touch-up may be needed within the first two weeks to ensure optimal results once it has settled in specifically on your unique muscular anatomy. The injections last about 3 to 4 months and most patients return quarterly to prevent future wrinkle formation and maintain their renewed, youthful look.
