Breast Revision Before & Afters

What is breast revision surgery?

Breast revision surgery, also called a “breast augmentation revision”, is a secondary procedure performed after an initial breast augmentation. This procedure replaces breast implants, corrects complications, and adjusts the appearance of the breasts to match your evolving aesthetic goals and your vision for your figure.

All women who have had breast augmentation will need corrective surgery at some point. New, modern implants are long-lasting and durable, but no implants last a lifetime. Breast revision surgery can be performed to replace older implants, change breast size, correct a complication, or return to your natural breast size.

Why undergo breast revision in Houston?

Breast augmentation has high patient satisfaction ratings. Women love how their breasts look and feel after the procedure. Breast implants are long-lasting, but they do occasionally need replacement. The top reasons women undergo breast revision surgery include:

Changes in lifestyle

The breasts you wanted at 25 may be different than what you want at age 40. Revision surgery realigns the breasts with your current priorities.

Change implant size

Some women wish they had gone bigger or smaller in their initial breast augmentation.

Capsular contracture

A condition where the scar capsule around the implant hardens, causing changes in the feel and sometimes appearance of the breast.

Leak or rupture

In some rare cases, a breast implant ruptures and must be replaced. Implants are guaranteed for a specific amount of time. Should a rupture occur, you may be eligible for financial assistance from the manufacturer.

Change implant type

Many women who chose saline implants for their implants later decide to switch to silicone for a softer, more natural feel.

Changes after pregnancy/weight loss

Revision surgery can restore a youthful breast appearance and alleviate sagging after pregnancy or weight loss.

Cosmetic concerns

These concerns include asymmetry, implant shifting, bottoming out, and poor implant placement.

Return to natural size

After enjoying implants for years, some women decide that they want to restore their natural breast size.

What does breast correction surgery involve?

Dr. Courtney performs breast revision surgery at a state-of-the-art operating facility in the Houston area. The equipment, furnishings, and lighting are designed specifically for plastic surgery.

Breast revision surgery is typically done under general anesthesia. Since it is an outpatient procedure, most patients return home on the day of surgery. The specifics of each operation are customized depending on your needs. Dr. Courtney will create an individualized plan before your procedure. He can provide detailed information about what to expect.

Incisions in breast revision surgery

In a typical breast revision, an incision is created to access the breast implants. The old implants are removed, and new implants are placed into the breast pocket. If needed, a capsulotomy, or the removal of the breast implant capsule, may be performed. Dr. Courtney also performs en bloc breast implant removals, in which he will remove the implant and capsule as a whole.

Additional aesthetic procedures

During your procedure, other surgical procedures may be performed. Many patients choose to include a breast lift, correct the size or position of the nipple or areola, or change the size or position of the breast implant pocket.

In some rare cases, the implants are removed and replaced in a later surgery. After Dr. Courtney has achieved your desired results, he will close the incisions and wrap the area in compression bandaging. You will then spend a short time in recovery before returning home.

What is the cost of breast revision in Houston?

The cost of revision surgery varies based on what is needed and the type of replacement implants you choose. On average a breast revision will cost from $11,000 and up  depending on the case. We’ll provide a detailed estimate at your consultation. In some cases, insurance providers will cover this procedure and we will work with you to verify your insurance coverage or provide help with financing options.

Recovery after breast revision surgery

Breast revision surgery requires some downtime. Here’s what to expect:

  • A sensation of tightness and tenderness, along with bruising and swelling are common. These side effects usually resolve within a few weeks of surgery.
  • Pain medications and antibiotics may be prescribed. Take all prescriptions as directed, including the full course of antibiotics. Most patients miss about one week of work.
  • You can resume taking gentle walks shortly after surgery. Wait six weeks to continue heavy lifting and strenuous activity.

FAQ:

Breast Revision

Am I a good candidate for breast revision?

If you have breast implants and you want to make a change to your breasts, you may be a good candidate for breast augmentation revision. We are delighted to spend all the time you need to answer your questions about the procedure and what will be required in your case, with no pressure, in a friendly, supportive environment.

Do I have to revise both breasts at the same time?

Breast revision surgery is often performed on both breasts to achieve the most symmetry. There are some cases where one breast is operated on alone. Dr. Courtney can tell you if you will need surgery on one or both breasts during your consultation.

My breast implants are getting older. Do I need to replace them?

If your implants are doing well and are enhancing your figure in the way that you love, there is no reason to replace them. Breast implant manufacturers recommend implants be changed every ten years.

Is breast surgery painful?

Tenderness and discomfort are to be expected following your revision surgery, but with proper pain management, the procedure should be reasonably easy for you. We will provide prescription pain medication if it is needed and detailed instructions for managing post-surgical discomfort. Dr. Courtney uses a pain medication called Exparel to ensure your comfort during healing.
