Facelift in Houston, TX with Dr. Courtney

Sun, smoking, age, and poor diet all cause skin to sag, discolor and wrinkle.  Fortunately, today’s breakthrough facelift techniques (rhytidectomy) create youthful, natural-looking results that last 10 to 15 years.

Dr. Courtney’s world-class training and extensive experience attract patients from Houston, all corners of Texas and even other countries. His Vectra XT 3D Imaging technology superimposes his recommendations and your suggestions onto your face, so you can most accurately envision how you’ll look once the bandages come off. We aim to design results that never appear artificial, “stretched,” or “overdone.”

The key to an exquisite facial rejuvenation is selecting a surgeon who is expert at determining your skin’s elasticity and underlying musculature. You’ll also need a scrupulously-planned incision pattern and just the right level of muscle tightening and fat removal from each area of the face. Dr. Courtney’s precision surgical technique and artistic finesse roll back the clock to a younger, more contoured you.

When Only a Custom Facelift Will Do

When you trust Dr. Courtney and his team, your facelift will be one-of-a-kind, tailored precisely to your needs and goals.

Focused on the mid-face, the facelift eases lines around the mouth (marionette lines and nasolabial folds), tightens sagging jowls, and smooths wrinkles.

Your goals will dictate the number and types of procedures involved in your facelift. Dr. Courtney has a treasure trove of treatments to rejuvenate your face. Many patients choose to add more youthful contours by using fat transfer to buoy cheekbones or “tear troughs,” the areas under your eyes that can look sunken. Your custom facelift treatment plan may also involve liposuction to remove fat under your chin if you choose.

Your complete transformation may also include a necklift, eyelid surgery, or a brow lift. Dr. Courtney can perform several of these procedures concurrently or schedule them for different times.

Depending on your goals, you may choose to pair your facelift with non-surgical treatments that allow you to sidestep concurrent surgeries. Laser skin resurfacing, microneedling and dermal fillers all smooth and strengthen skin. With celebrities and others spreading word of their potency, these minimally-invasive treatments get more popular every year.

Prepare for the Facelift Consultation

To prepare for your consultation with Dr. Courtney, we encourage you to bring in photos of your younger self. These photos give Dr. Courtney valuable insight about your facial structure. Using filtered selfies is not as effective as actual photos of you or family members.

During your consultation, your vision and goals remain paramount. Dr. Courtney will thoroughly review your medical history and perform an exam to study the natural architecture and contours of your face. He will answer all questions.

You may also opt to use Vectra XT 3D Imaging technology during your consultation. This device superimposes the changes you and Dr. Courtney propose over your face. This step helps you understand which procedures will render the most natural and flattering results. Getting a realistic idea of outcomes ahead of time helps patients relax about their surgery. Only a handful of plastic surgery practices in the Houston area make Vectra XT 3D Imaging technology available to patients.

What is Facelift Surgery Like?

Dr. Courtney conducts surgery in our AAAHC-certified ambulatory surgery center (ASC) rather than a hospital. This surgery center provides more comfort, convenience, and safety than any busy hospital operating or recovery room.  The infection rate in a certified ambulatory surgery center is half that of hospitals. More, patients spend 26% less time in an ASC than in hospital recovery rooms.[1] Our ASC far exceeds the health and safety standards most hospitals struggle to achieve.

Your facelift involves general anesthesia, so you will be unconscious during the procedure. We carefully vet our anesthesiologists, ensuring you get the best care. During the facelift, Dr. Courtney does more than cut and tighten skin. He uses state-of-the-art techniques that contours the underlying “superficial musculoaponeurotic system” (SMAS), a layer of muscle, connective tissue, and fat underneath the skin. Aging impacts the SMAS as much as the skin, so altering the SMAS is a critical step in reversing the signs of aging.

Once the SMAS has been recontoured, Dr. Courtney removes excess skin and closes the incisions. The entire surgery can take a few hours to complete, with additional time required when there are other accompanying procedures.

What Can I Expect During Recovery and Beyond?

You will awaken from your surgery with bandages in place and individual nursing care in our state-of-the-art recovery facility. You will stay in this facility for 24 hours for observation.

Expect some post-surgical swelling and discomfort. Dr. Courtney will prescribe (non-opioidal) medication to enhance your comfort during the first few days of your recovery. Before your surgery, you will receive extensive instructions on how to care for your face as it heals, and it is important to follow all guidelines to minimize swelling and maximize healing.

Even though the facelift surgery is highly complex, recovery is not particularly painful or difficult.  Most of your swelling will dissipate over the first two weeks, and patients often return to their normal daily activities within 10-14 days. However, we do ask that our patients refrain from vigorous exercise and jolting activities for a month or so to protect the face as it heals.

You will see a difference in your face right away when your bandages are removed, but it does take some time to be able to see your fully-renewed features as your swelling subsides. After the swelling has gone and the surgery has settled in a couple of months, your final results will reveal themselves.
